Grassroots Support Now

We are the charity that helps people Go Nice Places, Do Good Things. However, recent global events call for a shift of focus over the coming months. We are now prioritising our funds to support projects that demonstrate an immediate impact on those affected by the Covid-19 virus crisis.

As a community, we believe we are a resourceful and adventurous bunch and we welcome any applications from individuals or organisations serving those affected by coronavirus, across the country.

Examples include:
  • Being active in your local community to help elderly or vulnerable people

  • Minimising the impact of self-isolation for those in quarantine and need access to food, medicines or social care

  • Supporting foodbanks and increasing the number of meals on wheels deliveries to support the elderly

  • Supporting those who are homeless or in temporary accommodation

  • Bringing adventure indoors and overcoming the obstacles that prevent us benefiting from going outdoors.

What’s changed?

Much of the work we support promotes the positive health benefits of outside activity. This includes travel and close social interaction - most of which is now extremely difficult, if not impossible. Many of the projects that would have happened over the coming months will now be on hold. Clearly this work is still vital, but we will all need to find other creative ways of offering this support.

"After every storm, there comes clear open skies" - Samuel Rutherford

As a small charity we are directly involved with grass roots activists, freelance instructors and carers. We know that, as well as being concerned about the people they care for and inspire, they will also be worried about their own lives.

We also know that our larger, more established friends are going to be under extreme difficulties as they manage their cash flow, protect jobs and search for ways to support those of us who need it most now, and continue to be there when we get through this.

Alpkit, as the major funding source for the Alpkit Foundation, also has to adapt.

“There is no doubt the coming months are going to be challenging. As a company we must act responsibly to protect the jobs and lives of our employees and their families, but we are also committed to supporting the Alpkit Foundation. We have supported the foundation with 1% of our sales but, as these drop off, this important funding source will dry up. We also need to find creative ways of supporting charitable action such as supporting the volunteering work of our furloughed staff.” - Kenny, Alpkit Co-Founder and Foundation Trustee.

We are very proud to be part of the Outdoor Industry and would encourage anyone involved in this sector to support the work of the Outdoor Industries Association, a non-profit organisation that represents our interests at a government level. They have created a Covid-19 information hub and provide a voice for people working in this sector.

We can't go nice places right now, but we can still Do Good Things. Together.
