Put forward your group for a 1/2 day navigation walk at the Cromford Adventure Weekend - worth £59 / per person!

We get countless requests throughout the year from individuals and organisations to support outdoor activity courses just like this so it is a thrill to be able to offer one of our own in the Peak District this August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Running in collaboration with Cromford Mills and Pure Outdoor we have a programme of 4 1/2 day navigation walks. Each session can accommodate up to 10 people, making it ideal for small groups.

What better way to celebrate the outdoors than to get back out into it this summer.

Before applying please read the full activity description below to make sure it is suitable for your group and you are available to make one of the 4 sessions.

How to apply

Apply using our Alpkit Foundation Application Form and tell us about yourself and your organisation. Tell us what you are applying for by adding 'Cromford Adventure Weekend' in the Project Title. Also let us know how many people in your group.

About the activity

Get ready to learn everything you need to navigate safely and confidently during a fun and informative 1/2 day walk that will focus on boosting your confidence and developing your navigation technique as you explore the beautiful footpaths, hills and woodlands around Cromford Mill. Build the skills to exploring unknown places without getting lost!

What to Expect

This informative and practical 1/2 day course will equip you with the skills to build your confidence when navigating with an OS Map. Lead by a Pure Outdoor instructor with extensive experience, you'll:

  • Learn to navigate with map and compass
  • Build hillwalking confidence
  • Use a compass to set the map, check direction and follow bearings
  • Choose appropriate navigation strategies
  • Learn effective relocation techniques

What to Bring

  • Suitable clothing including good waterproofs
  • Comfortable walking footwear with good tread
  • Trail snacks
  • Plenty of water
  • Warm clothing including spare layers, gloves and hat
  • Sun cream, hat and sunglasses
  • A compass if you have one

Pure Outdoor provide maps and have some compasses available to borrow.

Minimum Age: 13 (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult)

Meeting Times & Logistics

Please meet at Cromford Mills (DE4 3RQ) at least 10 minutes before the course starting time to find your guide and ensure a timely departure.

Session 1: Saturday 28th August: 9am

Session 2: Saturday 28th August: 1.30pm

Session 3: Sunday 29th August: 9am

Session 4: Sunday 29th August: 1.30pm

Duration: approx 3-3.5hrs

Estimated distance: 4-6km

Cromford Adventure Weekend, 28th-30th August 2021

Once again outdoor activity providers will be converging on Cromford Mills for its annual Adventure Weekend. The weekend will give visitors a taste of the outdoor adventures that we have all missed over the last year and a half. The event is a showcase of outdoor activities, crafts and businesses designed to promote awareness and participation.

Since 2006, Pure Outdoor have provided UK and overseas Hillwalking, Climbing, Caving, Mountain Biking, Mountaineering, First Aid, Corporate Training and Group Events from our base in the Peak District. Our excellent, dedicated training centre The Adventure Hub provides a unique facility for all customers to enjoy.
