The Alpkit Foundation is delighted to support Millom School in Cumbria. The school would like all students to take part in a conservation project in the Lake District National Park. The project will take place over a week, with a different year group travelling to Eskdale each day. The pupils will be involved with hands on tasks such as clearance of litter, vegetation management, repairing paths, walls and fences and planting trees. They hope to transform this particular area with the help of their 500 students.

Matthew, from Millom School, explains why the project is being undertaken. "The project is to be completed in order for young people to be given the opportunity to participate in a conservation project. The school is located on the edge of the Lake District National Park but very few students currently access the National Park for conservation or recreation. The focus on one area and involving the whole school should demonstrate the positive impact that young people can have on the environment. It will give them access to an area of the park they will not have been to before. We will also be training older students to become conservation leaders for the school and community."

The school would like help from the Alpkit Foundation to cover costs of transport to the site. Friends of the Lake District are supporting delivering the conservation element, alongside staff and equipment. This project will hugely benefit the young people of the Millom community, people living in and visiting Eskdale.
