If you're coming to visit over the long weekend (or over a short weekend, or even a normal-length weekend), you may as well make the most of everything that Ambleside and its surroundings has to offer. Watersports on Lake Windermere
Whether your vessel takes the form of a kayak, a canoe, a paddle board or a sailing boat, you'll revel in the water wonderland around Ambleside. Boat hire and tuition is available throughout the Lake District, and you'll find that at our neighbouring Lake Windermere alone you'll be spoilt for choice!

Apparently, Ambleside has a reputation for being a little bit rainy in the winter (we don't know where that idea came from!). Despite the area's proclivity for precipitation, you'll find some of Lake District's most waterproof terrain around our town. With steep climbs and technical trails, biking here will make everywhere else you've ridden look as tame and gentle as Hobbiton.
