Ideal small backpack for day hikes which does not compromise on comfort
Paul Webster's review for Walk Highlands is an in-depth examination of the Alpkit small backpack. Despite its modest size, it is the ideal companion for day hikes when carrying compact gear, he suggests.
Webster notes that the backpack is fully equipped with features including a zipped main compartment with a sleeve for a hydration pouch, an internal mesh pocket for valuables, a separate zipped external top pocket, a large stretchy rear pouch, and two side pockets. The two side pockets can accommodate a litre water bottle each, albeit a tight fit. For added storage, the well-padded hip belt includes two easily accessible zipped mesh pockets.
Quality of construction is excellent, and I think the price is very reasonable for a small pack that really does everything you could ask of it.
The Alpkit pack does not compromise on comfort, sporting foam padding at the back of the shoulders designed to aid ventilation. The small size of the pack also contributes to reducing sweat build-up, an essential attribute for any day hiker. Webster appreciates the well-padded, comfy shoulder straps and the multifunctional chest strap buckle that doubles as a whistle.
Despite its smaller size, the Alpkit pack can accommodate ice-axe loops, which could also serve as storage for trekking poles. Though the pack's weight might seem a bit on the higher side for its size, Webster assures readers of the pack's robustness due to its substantial materials, suggesting it's built to last.
While the backpack lacks a cover, Webster personally prefers a waterproof liner. He commends the pack's excellent construction and reasonable pricing. He concludes his review with the confidence that this small pack from Alpkit delivers on all fronts, a reliable and sturdy companion for any day hiker.
