Mountain Life Outdoor Club

The Alpkit Foundation is pleased to support the Mountain Life Outdoor Club in Coventry. The club aims to teach primary school aged underprivileged children teamwork, leadership and social skills. The children involved with the club are from local council estates and would not normally have the opportunity to participate in outdoor activities. Tasks undertaken include navigation, cookery, setting up camp and conservational work. The project gives the children chance to talk about and express their emotions, whilst gaining practical, life-long skills. Run by Lower Ford Street Baptist Church, the club aims to have an active role in serving and benefitting the community.

Andrew from Mountain Life Outdoor Club explains why he is so passionate about the project. “The club aims to help children develop their social and life skills through positive interactions with adult role models and also health and well-being through the trips, and at the club which will run every Thursday. We are aiming for a long-term view with the project, in order to make a positive difference in many children's lives. Thus, we hope the project will be running long into the future.”

Help from Alpkit Foundation will enable Andrew to train for his Mountain Leader Award in order for him to take the children on trips to the Peak District in a safe and professional manner. Help will also be needed with transportation and equipment costs to enable as many children participate as possible.
