Thisonecounts ran its 5th edition of NITro North 10k night trail run around the Clwyd Forest, North Wales on Saturday evening 5thMarch. This year the event was using a new and challenging 10k route over a tough, hilly course within the Clwyd Range. It was a cold night that awaited the runners this year, the route was unrelenting, the ground was very muddy and slippery in places, it was a real adventure with no gimmicks.
The trail was a mix of terrain, from wide fire track to single forest track, winding its way up through and around the forest. The path was technical and tricky to navigate by its very nature, the hilly tracks making it challenging, it required concentration, focus and genuine determination. Mat Fenwick stormed home to win the male category with an impressive time of 52.40 just ahead of Hywel Lloyd in second and David Shepherd in 3rd place. While Ellie Robinson was first female ahead of Ffion Tomos and Sarah Ellis with a time of 1:03.29.
