Thanks to the guys at Genesis the Alpkit bike shed has been transformed into a stable of thoroughbreds. The line up includes an iO single speed, Core 30 and Ti Altitude with Shimano Alfine hub. That would be enough for most people, and honestly it really should be enough for us, but there are also rumours of an Alptitude somewhere in the post. Some of us are starting to think that the guys are pulling our leg with that last one.. I mean it has Alp in the name!
So who gets what? Nick has already put his name on the Altitude claiming that he needs it to make Genesis team rider Paul Errington a custom frame bag. We all know he just can’t get enough titanium in his life and the simplicity of the 8-speed Alfine hub reflects his riding savoir faire.
Making a break for it on the iO.
The big revelation for us all has been the bike that is threatening to disrupt the vigourous Alpkit work ethic. Come 4pm there is a sense of urgency in the air, wile glances are exchanged over monitors until finally someone plays their hand and delivers their excuses for offloading the work they have been secretly hoarding. The race is on to call it a day and ride the iO home!
Retro rider staking his claim to the trail.
Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised that Col has been digging it, less parts equals less maintenance equals less stress. Pete on the other hand has been loving its performance finding it agile and nimble, perky even. As for me I am still getting used to the wide bars. Having ridden retro-short for so many years it is going to take a while before I feel comfortable pulling an iron cross each time I take to the saddle.
Check out the full Genesis range, there could be something for you.
