Esker are low profile blended merino liner socks. Close fitting and highly wicking, they're designed to be worn under your hiking socks in a 2-layer system to reduce friction with your boot and help prevent blisters on longer hikes and multi-day trips. Made with blended merino for ultimate comfort, breathability and moisture wicking performance.

  • Low profile knit to fit under Liskam, Ushbar or Talus hiking socks
  • Blended merino wool with Coolmax and Thermolite fibres for warm, dry feet
  • Sole, heel and toe reinforced with polyamide for added durability
  • Wool from certified non-mulesing farms

A liner sock works as part of a 2-sock system. Sitting next to the skin, the liner rubs against the hiking sock which in turn rubs against the boot, this dual layer helps reduce friction between your skin and the boot and spread out the wear on your foot, preventing hotspots and blisters from developing. Using a liner also means you can pack fewer hiking socks and wear them longer between washes on longer trips. They're also great on their own as ultra lightweight socks for everyday use in the height of summer.

Cushioning zones at the toe and heel give comfort and support to these high pressure areas while maximising breathability across the rest of the foot, and a seamless construction further reduces the risk of blisters and hotspots on longer hikes. Increased polyamide content at the toe, heel and across the sole adds durability, extending the lifespan of your socks.

Merino wool is one of natures wonder materials. Soft and comfy against the skin, its natural breathability, fast wicking and odour resistance make it perfect for multi-day hikes in all weathers. Wool can absorb one third of its weight without feeling wet, making them great for avoiding blisters on warmer days. Coolmax synthetic fibres blended into the yarn help transfer moisture away from the skin faster, boosting the wicking properties of merino even further. Hollow Thermolite fibres trap warm air on cooler days; pair with your 3-season hiking socks to give 4-season warmth on wintry hikes. The addition of 4% elastane into the blend adds subtle stretch that keeps your socks in place without compressing your ankle.

Sustainability and Product Care

Care advice

Avoid snagging, vigorous machine washing, putting your finger through the fabric, and hungry moths. Those darn moths. Merino is naturally odour-resistant, requiring less washing. When your socks do start to whiff, hand wash it in lukewarm water or stick it on a delicates cycle at 30°C. Use a gentle soap instead of detergents if you can, and do not use conditioners or fabric softeners.

Alpine Bond

If one of our products does not meet your expectations upon delivery, or if during its lifetime does not live up to the demands placed upon it, please return it to us for repair, replacement or refund. If the problem is our fault then we will do this to your satisfaction. If it’s your fault then we will help out the best we can. Find out more about our Alpine Bond here.

End of life

When your partnership with this product is over send it back to us and we will pass it on to someone that needs it through our Continuum Project.

Non-mulesed wool

We only use wool from certified non-mulesed sources. Mulesing is a practice some farms use to guard against parasitic fly strike. We believe this practice is cruel and unnecessary and something that can be easily prevented by regular shearing.

Where it is made

Our products are made in the best factories in the world. We know the factories personally and they have all signed up to our Code of Ethics in our supply chain. This includes the Ethical Trading Initiative base code, fair pay, safe working environments, no child labour, no modern slavery, no bribery or corruption, no materials from conflict zones and humane farming methods.

All our factories sign up to our Code of Conduct. Find out where we make our product by visiting our Factories of Alpkit factory zone.

Reducing our carbon footprint

We are carbon neutral under PAS2060 and offset our Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 operations and transport emissions. We recognise that offsetting is not part of the solution but a point to pass through on a journey to Net Zero. Carbon Neutral is just a step in that journey.

We have joined the Science Based Targets Initiative which sets independent targets for us to achieve to do our bit to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Our targets are to halve our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2025 based on 2018 base year and reduce our total carbon intesnity by 15% every year to achieve genuine net zero by 2050.
