Description

After enduring ferocious snow and rain for 2 days, Edmund Hilary reached the highest point on our planet and became the first person to summit Everest. He was wearing a Ventile® jacket.

The world has changed in the last 70 years. But the protection of natural Ventile® has endured.

The wonder of Ventile®is in the fibres and the weave.

The highest quality organic cotton is woven into an incredibly tight 'Oxford Weave'. A weave so tight wind can't get through. And with such a high surface tension that rain droplets bead naturally on the surface.

Ranger is a natural fibre, full-featured alternative to the modern mountain shell.

It is weatherproof, breathable, and extremely hard-wearing. Rangers high-tech Ventile® fabric is made in Switzerland using the highest quality (GOTS-certified) organic cotton and treated with a PFC-free DWR. It combines traditional technology with modern design.

Designed for a lifetime of outdoor adventures, the Ranger is the perfect jacket for mountain days.

Highlights

Organic Ventile® fabric

Ventile® is naturally windproof and water resistant. In prolonged rain the cotton fibres absorb water and swell to form an impenetrable rain barrier.

Naturally breathable

The Ranger works with your other layers to allow excess heat and sweat to escape. Put it on and leave it on, whatever the conditions.

Mountain-ready design

Removable mountain hood with a wired peak and three separate adjustors. Cut for hiking and scrambling with articulated arms and a drop hem.

For a life outdoors

Incredibly hardwearing Ventile® can last a lifetime. Or several! It's easy to repair and we've used double-stitched overlapping seams for extra durability.

Designer‘s notes

"Ventile® isn't waterproof, but it's fantastic in changeable conditions, with better rain protection than a softshell. The fabric has such a tight weave that wind and rain droplets from passing showers can't squeeze through. In more prolonged rain, the cotton fibres on the outside swell and absorb water. This closes up tiny gaps in the weave to keep you protected from bad weather for longer."

Sustainability & Care

Environmental impact

GOTS-certified organic cotton

Ventile® is woven in Switzerland using the highest quality organic cotton, certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard. Organic cotton farming produces significantly less CO₂, uses less water and eliminates the use of harmful pesticides. And it feels great!

Recycled materials

The Ranger uses recycled YKK Natulon zips, recycled brass poppers and all the labels are made from recycled polyester.

PFC-free DWR

The Ranger uses a completely PFC-free DWR treatment on its outer fabric. PFCs are potentially harmful and have been found to build up in the environment.

The Great Outdoors magazine reviews Ranger

Ventile is soft and comfortable and lovely to wear. As Ventile is quite thick and the front and hood are double layer the Ranger is quite warm compared to synthetic windproof fabrics. I’ve worn the Ranger over just a base layer on cool days and been warm enough while moving. The hood fits well and moves with the head.

For overnight trips and year-round hillwalking it’s a good choice. As it’s so protective there’s no need to carry a fully featured waterproof jacket as well.

Walkhighlands reviews Ranger

Comfortable to wear on long, wet days (thanks Mull!) and have found it extremely breathable. A good barrier against the wind, heading uphill I found I kept it on much longer than I would my normal waterproof once the rain had eased.

I’ve found it to work well as a waterproof, not letting in any damp during a 7 hour day of almost constant rain and being more comfortable on a wet and cold mountain day than my regular jacket due to the higher breathability.

Overall I was impressed with the Ranger; I liked the robust yet soft feel. It would be a great choice for snowy, showery and windy days as well as very wet conditions.
