Customer Adventures Made in the UK

By Alex Guerrero>

This week, we’re celebrating everything UK-made with some of our customers’ adventures. In our factory on the edge of the Peak District, we have a wonderful team of sewing machinists who create, test, scrutinise and produce high-performance products. They work on bouldering mats, bikepacking bags and backpacks, as well as working on custom orders. We’re featuring some of our customers’ UK made stories.

Scotland 2021: 69 days, 2796 miles, 150788 feet climbed, 43 ferries, 34 islands and 1 hell of a trip. This image was taken at the tail end of a two-month tour of Scotland by Alpkit customer, Matt. He used an array of Alpkit bikepacking bags to keep him company on his epic journey. If you want to read more about his story, check out our Daring Deeds.

Georgia's Chilly Bouldering Day (@georgia_outdoors_uk)

Georgia took her UK-made bouldering mat out for a day trip to Kings Tor near Princetown. It was chilly – and the wind was epic! She had to climb on the south side of the tor to avoid the northerly freezing winds. She walked up via Foggintor Quarry, a big climbing site in Dartmoor, and along the old railway line.

“I bought the Camino at the start of the pandemic. This opened up a new world of further travel, being able to explore from my house and get to the local countryside and single tracks. With a group of friends, we planned a trip straight from the house to a nearby mountain and woodland to test the waters of bikepacking. It was just as restrictions were easing and it felt like a true escape and a first proper taste of freedom to the outdoors. I wanted to capture this in an image, so created a mixed media drawing of my rig. I loved capturing the details and it’s a great reminder of the adventures and good inspiration of those to come!”

Mhàiri's Bouldering Session (@mhairi_baird)

Rock climbing instructor and mountain leader trainee, Mhàiri, spent the day exploring some wild Kerry rock near home – the foothills of the McGillycuddy Reeks. After over a year of injury recovery, it felt great trying hard again on new lines. For Mhàiri, there’s something very special about time on the rock in solitude, and to have that opportunity in such a peaceful & remote place. As Norwegian explorer Fridtjof Nansen says, “you need solitude and contemplation – at least sometimes…it will not come from the rushing noisy centres of civilisation. It will come from the lonely places”.

David's Scottish Plans (@dg_cycling_kdy)

David's custom frame bag

"I have many plans brewing in my head to use my recently upgraded Cotic SolarisMax for some serious off-road, multi-day rides in remote parts of Scotland. I decided I really needed a full frame bag to compliment my existing tailpack, top tube and bar bags. It’s the only real option to ensure best fit and maximum use of space. Buying from a very socially responsible business is also important to me. Seeing all the good work Alpkit does supporting and promoting access to the outdoors to a diverse range of people is brilliant. With the battering I expect to give the bag, it is also good to know that there is the repair service at the Alpkit store nearby in Edinburgh, should things get damaged."
