The Tarn gorge

The lesser known sister of the Ardeche and rising from the same mountains, the Tarn cuts a 500m deep gorge into the limestone of southern France.

We set out in the evening of the first day and after an hours paddling we found a bivi spot in the woods and made camp for the night. A little rain didn't bother us as we snuggled under our tarps.

After a lazy breakfast the next day we set out on the main stretch of the gorge taking in 'the narrows' where the canyon closes in to less than fifty feet. We saw wild deer, lizards & griffin vultures circling overhead.

Another bivvy, this time on a glorious white sandy beach and a campfire and then the final push to where huge boulders have made the river impassable. A great trip with hot sunshine, beautiful scenery and calming solitude...
